Each GSM Partner is a well-established, independent manager-owned company and ALL have built reputations of being significant leaders in their own countries. We follow a robust due diligence process when recruiting new Partners and if a potential Partner fails to meet stringent criteria, they will not be considered. We cherry-pick each Partner to ensure they are a perfect match for GSM. The Partnership is tremendously strong and allows us to create customized, market-leading travel programs and solutions that deliver tangible value and maximize travel spend for our clients both globally and locally.

Michael has successfully taken Merit Travel Group from three employees in 1991 to more than 475 employees at 25 offices across Canada, representing some of Canada’s leading travel brands. In addition to managing Merit’s Executive Team and overseeing the company’s growth strategy, Michael currently sits on the Board of Directors for GSM Travel Management and has also served as GSM Chair, enabling him to steer the global development and strategic growth of the 48 partner strong network. He has also been actively involved in the Canadian travel industry over the past 20+ years, having served on several key industry boards including ACTA, ASTA & TICO, and contributing through various speaking engagements and advisory roles. Supporting his travel industry experience, Michael has completed business degrees from the University of New Brunswick (BBA) and IMI Geneva (MBA) and his business experience in other industries has proven invaluable in successfully growing Merit, while never losing focus of what matters most – our clients.

Upon leaving school Charles worked for Jardines Airport Services Company Limited (JASL) in Passenger Services Department for almost 20 years at the Kai Tak Airport. As JASL was a GSA for British Airways, Charles was given the opportunity to travel to London on several occasions to attend British Airways Training Centre. Upon leaving JASL, Charles moved to Beijing in order to work for the family’s business. The business predominately provided travel management services to foreign governments such as the American Embassy, British Embassy, UNDP groups and large global corporations such as ABB, IBM and HP.

In recent years, Charles has taken up the role at Meiya Travel Services as Director of Global Development, it is here where Charles utilises his experience of the Chinese market and working with large multi-national corporations to support the growth and development of GSM and Meiya Travel.

Qualified Chartered Accountant Fred Stratford has worked in the travel industry for over 15 years, holding the position of Finance Director at some of the industry’s most recognized brands, including Thomson, Lunn Poly, Britannia and TUI UK. Away from the travel industry, Fred has also gained a huge wealth of experience in a number of different sectors most notably; the wine industry, business services and recruitment. This diverse career has given Fred the opportunity to work in multiple countries across the world, giving him a strong understanding of the international market place.

In March 2012, Fred joined GSM UK as Chief Finance Officer and Board Director, his responsibilities range from overseeing the company’s financials and advising the UK Board. To complement Fred’s role at GSM UK, Fred also holds the position of Finance Director on the GSM Board, where he focuses on delivering financial updates and forecasts, as well as working with the GSM Central Team in managing company budgets.
